What is life like for the artists and creatives at FriendsFair? Why do they choose self-employment, and what role does FriendsFair play as a marketplace? Today we’re talking to the founder of the brand Make Lanie – a creative, entrepreneur and passionate designer.
1. How did you come to FriendsFair?
I really wanted to support a platform that stands behind real people – not just another sales machine. What also convinced me about FriendsFair was the fact that I only have to pay once products are actually sold, not already when listing them. That allowed me to try things out and continue being creative.
2. How did your creative journey begin?
Everything started in 2023 with a small hobby plotter, and I began making small gifts and products for family and friends.
The reactions were incredibly positive, and everyone told me that I should somehow make my products accessible to others as well. That’s why I registered my small business last year.
3. What do you love most about your creative process?
Laser cutting is a little escape for me. When everything becomes too much, I retreat to my craft room, turn on some music and see what comes out when I simply start creating freely.
I consciously don’t want to set any limits for myself and prefer to let my creativity run free.
4. What inspires you in your work?
I’m deeply inspired by the darker music of the 1980s – the New-Wave sound.
You can see this reflected in many of my designs, colors and shapes.
5. Why do you think people value handmade products so much?
I believe it’s because people can feel the passion that goes into them.
Something handmade – something that exists only once in exactly that form – is far more individual and personal than something you simply buy on a large platform.
